Scuba Instructor needed for Marine Conservation Project in the Caribbean

An exciting opportunity has come up to join the Coral Cay Conservation (CCC) team in Montserrat (Caribbean) as a ‘PADI Scuba Instructor

Start date: 23rd April 2015

This is a minimum four month voluntary post overseeing the safety of expedition diving activities and the training of non-divers to allow participation in marine conservation surveys.

CCC is a not-for-profit, NGO that has been working throughout the tropics since 1986.  We apply the ‘civilian science’ approach to utilise volunteers from all backgrounds to survey the reef systems in order to produce baseline data to create coastal management plans.

Montserrat Volunteer Conservation Programme:

Nicknamed the Emerald Isle of the Caribbean, Montserrat is home to lush green vegetation and sapphire blue waters. Stunning scenery houses a wealth of unique wildlife, with many fascinating species found nowhere else in the world. However, following a series of volcanic eruptions on the island which began in 1995, Montserrat’s tropical forests and coral reefs have come under increasing pressure and now work needs to be done to help preserve these extraordinary ecosystems for the future.

Responsibilities:

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

  • Providing safe SCUBA tuition to company personnel, expedition volunteers and their counterparts
  • The maintenance and stock control of SCUBA equipment
  • Enforcing policies on expedition safety on site
  • Safe dive planning
  • The maintenance of SCUBA training records
  • The maintenance of SCUBA equipment and maintenance schedules
  • The submission of regular reports to HO and project counterparts
  • Helping with marine and terrestrial surveys where necessary

Please note that the successful candidate will need to cover the costs of their flights and travel to the expedition site, visas and all relevant insurance.

Minimum Requirements:

PADI OWSI & EFR Instructor with experience of certifying students (20 certs minimum)
