PADI OWSI for Fiji Research Camp
We have a 6-12 month position starting in our Fiji research camp.
Frontier is one of the UK’s leading conservation and development non-profit organisations. Since our establishment in 1989, Frontier has been a forerunner in biodiversity conservation and the development of sustainable livelihoods. We also have an excellent record of species discovery and heightening environmental awareness in local communities.
Frontier has a great opportunity for a Dive Officer at one of our field research sites to support our tropical environmental marine research. Dive Officer’s will supervise the training of researchers up to Advanced Open Water with the ability to instruct EFR and Dive master. They will also be responsible for maintenance of all dive associated equipment.
This is an opportunity for any budding scientists to learn environmental research techniques; with your team you will evaluate coral cover and record fish and marine mammals through your dive surveys. Reef assessments will identify damaging practices and provide recommendations for sustainable management.
As a not-for-profit, we cannot pay huge salaries; however we can offer a capped contribution towards your air fare, all of your food and accommodation and a bit of spending money in country. This would be perfect for a recent OWSI who would like to gain some experience in science techniques and training volunteers. Past members of staff have gone on to forge careers working for organisations such as the WWF and Conservation International.
Your main responsibilities will be to:
•To administer, maintain and control all diving and related equipment
•To plan, organise, and execute all diving activities, taking into account all physical, logistical, safety and financial considerations;
•To supervise, train and motivate all project staff, volunteers and host-country participants to do the work contained in the diving schedule;
