BUYER BEWARE. This has to be the worst company I've ever dived with. First off we went on the cheaper dive as they are outrageous for the Catalina dive, which we saw a total of 5 different fish. I got sick after the dive (which I've never been sick, and I've dived and fished all over the world), I have read it could be because of bad air (yes it could of been decompression sickness, however I was feeling sick during the dive), but I believe it was bad air. My wife got sick as well. We asked for our money back for the second dive and they refused. We also had another dive with them for the Whale Shark, incredible dive recommend it to everyone. However they outsource it to another company, it's an 1.5 hour drive there from Barcelo May Palace, we waited to launch for 2 hours, why we had to wake up at 6am is ridicules to sit for 2 hours. Then drove for 1.5 hours on a boat which was rough the seat are not attached so we slid all over, the worst ride there and back. The light breakfast was a joke, then lunch was even more of a joke. We paid over 275 per person for 6 hours of a ride and 1 hour of snorkeling with the whale sharks, for $2 worth of snacks. We rode with a couple who prepaid and got this dive along with Catalina dive and 2 more dives for the 2 of them for 1k, I spent that just on the dive and the whale shark for me and my wife. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY.
The diving is incredible! Only 10-20 min away by boat, there are STELLAR reefs and sites to visit. I did four dives that week and enjoyed them all. We saw huge green sea turtles, stingrays, spotted eagle ray, nurse sharks, parrot fish, and every type of tropical fish and every shape and colour of coral!!!!
Dressel divers is located on the Iberostar property making it the ideal choice if you are staying there. This is a very busy dive shop so groups of 8+ per dive master is not uncommon, so be prepared for very little one-on-one attention. For this reason I would not recommend this dive shop for beginner or new divers. The shop is so busy and overworked that they do not have time to give new or inexperienced divers the attention they need/deserve. For example on a few dives we went on divers making certifying dives were grouped in large dive groups with certified divers and didn't appear to get any real instruction. Dive masters were good, and tried their best but seemed overworked. PADI dive practices are also taken somewhat lightly, safety did not seem to be a priority, but maximizing dive time, which is good value for your money if you're an experienced diver, but not recommended for those that prefer to dive cautiously. Night dives offered 3 times a week were excellent! If you choose Dressel I would recommend booking/paying in advance as the prices on site are much steeper, prices also seemed to vary so check around prior to get the best package price. Nitrox fills are free, so that's a nice bonus if your Nitrox certified.
